First full on guild run!

  • Nov. 12th, 2009 at 8:12 AM
I <3 my guild.

In all my 4 years of playing I don't think I've ever played with such an amazing group of people. People who actually enforce the rules. People who actually want to help you to succeed. People who really just want to have a good time.

Last night we did our first full on 10 man raid. Most people have pugged other raids, but for 10 of us to actually get organized enough to run together...it was awesome :)   The original plan was to do EoE....but we failed. So we decided to just take the easy way out and do OS10 without dragons. Throughout the whole thing I kept disconnecting. I was really frustrated and told them that they could replace me since I doubt I'd be of any use to the raid. But they all insisted that I just keep logging back in and do what I could because they really wanted to me there with them. Then thanks to a badly placed disconnect I died from the fire wall. Luckily everyone else has better setups than I do and they still go him down easy as pie. As loot was being distributed they still gave me the Gloves of the Lost Vanquisher. I was the only one who could use them anyways, but I still felt a little bad taking them since I wasn't able to do much.

I'm VERY grateful for such an amazing guild!!

Confused disc priest

  • Nov. 12th, 2009 at 3:10 PM

Hey ladies

I just wondered if I could get some advice or maybe a clue as to what happened.  Bit of background, i'm a disc priest in a mix of T8, T8.5 and T9, i've healed for my guild for the past year and a half and we have cleared Naxx 10, Uld 10 (apart from Yogg who's going down tonight hopefully :)), ToC10 and all the other 10 mans like Ony 10 etc.

So.. after doing a guild run to VoA and Onyxia 10 we decided to pug so we could do 25 man Onyxia.  This is where it all went wrong.  Long story short, after a few wipes one of our tanks had to leave so one of the pugs brought in his warrior tank.  I was healing the warrior tank who was also MT along with a holy pally (also in my guild).

Phase one went pretty smoothly, no big problems however on phase two when the Lair Guards enter, my warrior tank picked them up, the first one died pretty fast but on the second one he went down like a sack of potatoes, I had no time to react he just.... died.  I literally sat staring open mouthed at the screen for a few seconds in a "WTH" moment because he went down that fast.  I had no problems healing our guild main tank (Prot Pally) on the attempts before the warrior took over, are warriors more squishy than Pallies?  (btw I healed him with PW: Shield, PoM, Pennance, fh until pennance is up again, shielding when I can, PoM'ing when I can and using Pain Supp once to get me out of an "oh shit" moment.  Actually I think DE was up as well when he died which makes it even more confusing.)

Then followed the "wtf" and "... we need to get good healers", "LOL the tank died", linking Recount which obviously doesn't show me in a great light seeing as my bubbles weren't included.  The group broke up shortly after, mainly because guild members started to defend us (3 healers were in our guild (including me) and the whole atmosphere turned nasty.  I hate that :(

I felt pretty bad about it because I should be able to keep him up, I have no idea what happened.  The only thing that I can think of is we just didn't manage to top him off enough before he got the next big Ignite Weapon hit or AoE but I'm not entirely sure.  Everyone is telling me not to worry and to forget about it but I hate failing so its bugging me :(

My friend told me that he got hit 16 times by Ignite Weapon and didn't move out of the AoE quite a few times, was he mean't to move away from the Ignite Weapon or the AoE (I have no idea about tanking so forgive my newbish questions)?  I don't want to blame the tank or anything I just want to find out what could have killed him quickly and if it was my fault, learn from it :)  Is there a nasty move the adds do that I haven't read about or don't know about?

Sorry this post is longer than I wanted it to be... please don't fall asleep reading it ;)

Help?

  • Nov. 12th, 2009 at 8:16 AM
I have no idea where to find the answer to this... is there some place I can contact blizzard (other than waiting on hold for three hours) to find out what's going on?

I've never had a forum ban so, I'm not sure how to tell if I'm just getting glitches or I've been banned (god knows why!)

When I log into the forums (official blizz forums) instead of my character portrait I see "You have no active World of Warcraft Accounts Attached" in red underlined text. When I click on that text I get a list of my toons the names of which are all grayed out. There is an asterisk (*) beside each toon which leads to the bottom of the list, another asterisk and the comment, "*The characters on this account are unavailable, as the account has expired or is prohibited from posting."

Since I'm IN GAME right now I know I'm on an active account... does this mean I somehow earned myself a forum ban??

Edit: Apparently it's a billing cycle error:

"'We don't need no education? We don't need no thought control?' Obviously you can't take that at face value," Brigid said. "It's satire, it's got to be. It's like A Modest Proposal. They're not really advocating an anti-education point of view. They're making fun of it."

"I'm afraid I must disagree," said Alex. "First of all, there's no evidence within the song that it's anything but just exactly what it says. The idea that such an idea is so over-the-top as to be untenable is more a matter of personal bias than anything actually in the text. Furthermore, you have to look at the song within the context of the larger work. 'The Wall' is a rock-opera, a large single work, of which the song is just a smaller part. It's about isolation, it's about a series of abusive relationships that lead to a socially- and emotionally-broken protagonist. The teachers in 'The Wall' are mean, small-minded, vicious — 'just another brick in the wall' that separates the character Pink from the rest of the world. And as a largely-autobiographical work by Roger Waters, there's no reason not to think that it is, in fact, based on his own teachers. Far from making fun of an anti-education point of view, it sounds to me like an anthem devoted to the idea of eliminating schools all together."

"That's ridiculous," said Brigid. "And furthermore, you're a stupid-head."

"Oh I am, am I?" said Alex. "Well let's turn to the expert, here. You're the literary guy, Greg, what do you think? Straightforward rant, or sly satire?"

"Well," said Greg, "I think you're both overlooking a much more important question here: specifically, how can you have your pudding if you don't eat your meat?"

Brigid and Alex both nodded, impressed. "That is a stumper," said Brigid.

Calculating Gear Score? (NOT a QQ)

  • Nov. 12th, 2009 at 7:49 AM
So, last night I was chillin' in Darkshore, killing rabid thistle bears and working on my loremaster achievement, when I got a whisper from a stranger:

Mysterious Druid: Kel saved to 10 toc?
Me: She's never done it actually (Don't ask me why I answered in 3rd person)
Mysterious Druid: Mmkay, I'll ask the raid leader. Do you have a gear score by chance?
Me: No, I'm afraid I don't, but I know that I'm right on the edge.

I didn't hear anything again, which doesn't surprise me and was fine because I'd been heading off to bed anyway (and it amuses me that this mysterious druid never asked me my spec or asked me if I wanted to go to 10 toc O.o). But it did get me thinking...

I am an officer of a casual/social guild. When I raid (which is rare), it's usually with KittenPug, who I'm familiar with. I farmed heroics for a long time but stopped shortly before gear scores really became a big deal. While I do miss raiding, I have been discouraged by the fact that to get into a raid any more, you have to already have the achievement, so I've just been letting my 80 collect dust. This means that I never bothered to look into this gear score thing. And last night, I realized that... maybe I should. Just in case I get asked that again. I should have an answer, right?

Which brings me to my super noobish question. Controversy regarding the gear score aside... how does one calculate gear score? Do I just add up the ilevel of all my equipment? Do I have to get an add-on to calculate it for me?

FYI, my priest's armory is here: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Khadgar&n=Keleili

3.3 question

  • Nov. 12th, 2009 at 5:25 AM
So I was reading wowhead's 3.3 patch guide and came across something I hope is not as bad as I think.

"In addition the bosses from the Trial of the Crusader no longer appear in the grounds - the event is over, there is no need to spend resources on games."

Does that mean you wont be able to do the Tournament things like the daily quests and the instances? Are they really going to take all that away? Say it aint so, I still have things to do there!! Can anyone confirm or deny that the Argent Tournament will be a thing of the past?

The article is here, info found under the "Icecrown Changes" section

Emerald Dream (US)

  • Nov. 11th, 2009 at 10:44 PM
Any ladies on Emerald Dream (US)? Just about to transfer over, and was wondering if any of you called it home. :) Oh, and I'm Alliance.

Also had a few minor questions... First of all, do you like it? Silly question, but... this is my first big transfer and I'm nervous. How's the BG PvP, does Alliance have a chance? General community attitude? RP? And this would be my first time on a pvp server... how's the dreaded ganking I hear so much about?

Hi!!

  • Nov. 11th, 2009 at 8:50 PM
Hello! I'm new here :) My name is Melissa, but I'm known as "Addie" (short for Adelaid) the Gnome Mage on Sisters of Elune. I've been playing WoW for about 2 years now - I started playing with my husband when we were dating. He's in the army and while we were dating he was in Hawaii and I was in Oregon, so we used it as a way to keep in touch. :) My other 80 is a Draenei Shaman, but I've been playing horde lately. I just made a tauren druid and dusted off my lvl 58 blood elf hunter and kind of got sucked in RP =P I'm very new at it, but from what I've experienced it's pretty fun :)

Anyhoo, nice to meet you all! *wave*

Mood Leak

  • Nov. 11th, 2009 at 10:30 PM
[info]lythandra is of the opinion that it's extended symptoms of Cymbalta withdrawal; I don't know, myself, given the chronic recurrence of depression since my childhood, but certainly it doesn't help. But whatever the reason, for some time now (weeks at least, if not months, hard to tell for sure) I've been having a real problem with my mood constantly trying to slide into either snarling grouchiness or self-loathing depression. And it's insidious about it, too ... I'll be going along not paying any attention to it and suddenly notice that I'm biting off people's heads or mysteriously fighting off tears in the shower.

Not about anything, either, which is the worst part about it. If I was actually upset about something, that would actually be a comfort. The way I described it to Laurie is that my mood is acting like a leaky balloon — it starts out fine, but then just slowly starts to sag as all the air runs out of it until I suddenly realize what's happening and have to pump it up again.

I'm looking into ways to fix the problem, although so far I haven't latched on to a satisfactory plan yet. I'm not going on any more drugs for it after Lyrica and Cymbalta, that's fer damn sure. I would go back to the St. John's Wort, as that worked well for me before, but according to Laurie's research, people "coming down" from Cymbalta are generally recommended to avoid St. John's Wort because it mucks around with their serotonin levels too much.

Until I come up with a better solution, however, I'm basically trying to keep to myself (other people tend to stress me out, and in my current state I'm sure I'm no prize to be around for them, either) and keep myself as busy as possible so I don't slip into a brood. That's been good for keeping the laundry and dishes done around the house, at least, and I'm actually ahead of schedule on the art for this year's Suburban Jungle Christmas card (Leona's turn this year!).

Another thing I'm doing for mood therapy is making a point of watching movies I like, or at least listening to them while I work (I was meant to be alive in the Golden Age of Radio, but missed it by about 50 years). Tonight's entry was Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit, which also mysteriously leaves me in tears, but they're good ones. (I can't help it, I always get choked up at the end!)

Anyway, it's late and I need to get to bed. So g'nite, world, and have an awesome tomorrow. :)

Paladin Problems

  • Nov. 11th, 2009 at 6:30 PM
I'm duel specced, 75, and have spent most of my time leveling as ret. It seemed to make the most sense, it was fast and efficient. I realize some people level holy or prot, but this was what I enjoyed. Awhile ago I duel specced prot. My fiance was a holy pally at the time and I wanted us to be able to put groups together for instances quickly. I like prot, alot. However, now that I'm nearing 80 I find that I'm dreading it. It's a strange reaction, and I've been avoiding my pally in favor of leveling alts because I'm nervous about 80.

I feel like there is a huge responsibility on tanks. Like, I feel that because I'm not, and don't intend to be, a hard core raider that I have no business tanking. I'm happy being Ret, and will always keep that spec. Recently, I've been playing around on the fiance's old main (holy pally) and enjoying it. I've been seriously considering going Ret/Holy.

Healer's have just as much responsibility as tanks, but for some reason I feel like there is less pressure...
Anyone else ever feel this way?

Looking for a guild ... Boulderfist (H)

  • Nov. 11th, 2009 at 3:57 PM
So after much discussion, myself and a small group of friends have decided to leave our tiny, raiding stagnate server and transfer to Boulderfist, (horde side).

So, do any of you ladies play on Bolderfist? And if so, could you point me in the direction of some decent guilds? Ideally, I'd like to be clearing 25 toc weekly and working on togc 25. I only want to raid 2 days a week (tues/wed would be ideal). An occasional 3rd day would be fine (mon or thurs). With Icecrown on the horizon, I definitely want to be in a postion to see it when it comes out.

We are all toc 25 geared. (We = shadow/disc priest, dk tank and enh/resto shammy. Possibly making the transfer with us as well ... a rogue, prot war, resto druid, blood dps dk and a hunter.)

Thanks.

<3
Hey everyone! I thought I'd throw this up here in case any of you are looking for a new guild.

TL;DR: MWR 8-11 EST 2/5 ToGC25 needs tanks and DPS (esp melee) for full time raid positions. We are an adult guild and respect people's RL. Friendly raiding atmosphere. website!

We've also got a good number of female raiders and women are afforded full respect in the guild, none of that "OMG ITZ A GURL ON VENT" nonsense.

Holy priest help

  • Nov. 11th, 2009 at 4:27 PM
Hello!

Today I faction changed my draenei into a blood elf (because the alliance side has gotten a bit boring lately) and before doing so I made sure she had duel-spec for utility purposes.

She is level 70 and has just started questing in Northrend. I've played her as Shadow since level 10 and have never healed as a priest before (though my main is a resto druid whom I've been raiding with quite a bit).

She was always an alt, and will always be. Her gear is mostly from Outlands and Karazhan, and she's geared as a shadow priest (or at least, how I knew how to gear her way back when I played her before WotlK).

Any suggestions, ideas and tips would be greatly appreciated. What does your skill bar look like? Which heals do you use the most? Anything specific I should know? What stats do you look for in new gear for holy priests?

Thanks so much in advance!

PS. The name's Aishlyn on Cenarion Circle, unguilded for now, but I'd love to make new friends. Feel free to drop by and say hi if you see me online~

Question regarding game codes

  • Nov. 11th, 2009 at 3:22 PM
I've been putting this off for far too long and cannot find the answer elsewhere, so I am turning to the one place that seems to have all the answers . . .  WoW-wise, anyhoo!

When WotLK was coming out, I decided to splurge on the Collector's Edition, which I ordered offline.  Lo and behold, with the crazy high demand for them, my order was delayed and put on a "we may have more, we may not, so.... it's pending.  Indefinitely," status, and  when the game finally dropped, I had to go buy the regular version in order to be able to play.  (I'm not patient, especially when the word "indefinitely" is involved."  Bought the box, used the code, and happily killed the pixels amongst the harsh cold of Northrend.

And then the Collector's Edition arrived! Yay!  I "upgraded" using the new code and got a bunch of cool stuff and art and a pet that makes cute noises and a massive box that did not fit on my video game shelf.

So the question now is:  can I resell the "regular" version of the game, even though I already used the code?  Did upgrading release the code from my account?  Or is it permanently linked to me?  Because, ya know, it's the holiday season and even an extra $20 would be wonderful right now.

If not, no big deal, but I'd rather it not collect dust sitting useless in the corner when it can otherwise be put to good use (aka making me money)

TIA, WoW-Ladies!

(I have no idea what to tag this, will edit if I figure something out)

hmn hunterly stuff.

  • Nov. 11th, 2009 at 12:58 PM
I got a question for you survival hunters out there about rotations.

I was talking to one of my guildies who just happened to have a hunter before he switched his main to a healer. and we were talking about increasing my damage. (Some days i do good, and others it's just bleh.)

and here's where i go "buh?"

my shot priority is SS>>BA>>ES>>AS>>StS for boss fights where i don't have to run i pop rapid fire before ES in that rotation. so basically in fights it ends up where i'll do my first round then 2 StS, ES, StS, aimed shot and whack a mole from there.

now he's suggesting removing aimed shot from this to squeeze in more steady shots. Do any of you ladies do that?

I'd basically just use aimed shot for pvp/kiting large things/faction champs if i did, and part of my says "It's off CD, HURRY CLICK IT!"

so. yeah. If any of you surv ladies out there use a rotation/priority where aimed shot's only in the mix for special occasions does it boost your deeps?

((to aimed shot, or not to aimed shot? that is the question.))
